MySQL Order By Bug in versions 5.051 and prior

I apologize if this has been addressed earlier - I couldn't find any threads on it, so and posting here.

I have a site (WP based) using v. 1.65 of xampp. I just upgraded to a different theme that uses the particular query addressed in this MySql bug:

Reading through their issue, it looks as though they pushed a fix for it in versions 5.0.52, 5.1.23, and 6.0.4 and above.

I plan on upgrading to 1.67 of xampp this evening, but based on the release notes, it looks as though the MySQL version is at 5.0.51b.

My questions then are:

- does the 5.0.51b version address the bug?
- if not, how easy or hard is it to upgrade the MySql version manually - i.e. are there any tutorials, docs on it?

Looks as though 5.0.51b does not address the bug
The 5.0.67 release does fix it

So the question remains, is there a way to upgrade manually or are there any plans to include the newer version into xampp?
