FTP doesnt seem to work

when starting lampp, lampp tells me that proftp has started. however, when i go to ftp://localhost it doesnt work at all. just hangs on with "beginning ftp transaction"

how can i get my ftp to work?

Did you also try to establish a connection using an ftp client, f.i. WinSCP?

yes, i although after messing with the password, now it just says im entering the wrong password.
