Pages not being found, then they are?? (english)

Can anyone tell me why, when I go to http://localhost/[site]/[page] from a LINK that nothing shows up, and the page title says 'invalid syntax error'?? This is very strange, because if I type the url in manually, or even just add a ? sign at the end of the failed URL, it loads.
This is obviously a problem- why wouldn't it load pages one minute then find them the next??
