XAMPP, Ubuntu Server 7.04, backup.

Hello, first of all thank you for an awesome set of documentation, no problems during setup easy and straight forward.

Problem: after installing xampp and running security (setting up passwords)
i've tried to test the /opt/lampp/lampp backup mysql_password_with_numbers
and recieved this as output:

"Backing up databases....
phpmyadmin: FAILED
user@server:~$"

(script quits returns to prompt)

I've logged into phpMyAdmin to check permissions on the (phpmyadmin) database and root has all privilages.

Not sure where to go from here. the server is still in building stages and i'm testing out things but I would like to get all the angles covered before moving it into live status.

Not that this helps, but I had the same problem after upgrading to the most recent version of XAMPP. I then looked through the forums and saw that people had similar problems but never received a response on the boards. Luckily I had a backup of the previous version so I simply rolled everything back. I'll wait for one of those 1.x.xa or 1.x.x.b releases before trying to upgrade again. Perhaps it'll be sorted out by then.

My setup is with Ubuntu Server Dapper Drake 6.06.1 LTS. I'm not much for using the non-LTS versions of an OS for production usage. I won't be upgrading (my servers) until the highly anticipated 8.04 release of Ubuntu.

Well, there's something wrong with the script, I think.

You only have to delete the following lines from /opt/lampp/share/lampp/backup:

if test -z "$d"
then
echo "Can't access database. Is MySQL running? Added the MySQL root password to end of command line?"
exit
fi

and the backup will run fine.

Hello, i followed skuipers advice and commented out following lines:

if test -z "$d"
then
echo "Can't access database. Is MySQL running? Added the MySQL root password to end of command line?"
exit
fi

from the backup script.

The backup worked! i did not have to provide the database password either.
Just out of curiousicy, how is it able to backup mysql db without a password?
Thank you for your help. The fix worked. I've yet to test the recovery but the backup part worked.

Maybe you are logged in as root? Possibly the backup is a Linux function that has nothing to do with MySQL security.
