ok i downloaded the tar file to the desktop and run

vash@zero-server:/$ sudo tar xvfz xampp-linux-1.6.1.tar.gz -C /opt
Password:
tar: xampp-linux-1.6.1.tar.gz: Cannot open: No such file or directory
tar: Error is not recoverable: exiting now
tar: Child returned status 2
tar: Error exit delayed from previous errors

can anyone help please

can anyone help please


what do get after you enter "ls -al"

I mean :
- have you recovered the archive or just a link ?
- is the archive in the current path ?

recovered???

its just siting on the desktop where i downloaded it too

FYI IM NEW TO LINUX I DONT KNOW THE COMMAND LINE VERY WELL

Sorry, I'm new to english.

recovered for me does mean downloaded.

First of all, have you used the statements found at
http://www.apachefriends.org/en/xampp-linux.html ?

Can you open a terminal and see the file you did download (juste use the command "ls") ?
