MySQL server not starting, permissions issue?

Hi,
I'm trying to set MySQL's datadir to a folder in a FAT32 drive. The drive is correctly mounted and I have set in fstab the owner of all files to my user and group (kiani:kiani).
When I start lampp, everything goes ok except MySQL, which does not start. I tried using mysqld_safe and this is what I get:
I am guessing this has something to do with permissions. What userid/groupid is mysqld_safe using? Any tips on how to solve this?
Thanks!
I'm trying to set MySQL's datadir to a folder in a FAT32 drive. The drive is correctly mounted and I have set in fstab the owner of all files to my user and group (kiani:kiani).
- Code: Select all
# /dev/sda6
UUID=45B7-6CF6 /data vfat users,umask=0000,uid=kiani,gid=kiani 0 1
When I start lampp, everything goes ok except MySQL, which does not start. I tried using mysqld_safe and this is what I get:
- Code: Select all
kiani@vaio:/opt/lampp/bin$ sudo ./mysqld_safe -verbose
chown: changing ownership of `/data/mysql/vaio.err': Operation not permitted
Starting mysqld daemon with databases from /data/mysql
STOPPING server from pid file /data/mysql/vaio.pid
070330 19:54:07 mysqld ended
I am guessing this has something to do with permissions. What userid/groupid is mysqld_safe using? Any tips on how to solve this?
