when i start xampp, it smees to start:

XAMPP: Starting Apache with SSL (and PHP5)...
XAMPP: Starting MySQL...
XAMPP: Starting ProFTPD...
XAMPP for Linux started.


but when i attempt to go to http://localhost, i get nothing.

whats going on?

It depends on what "nothing" is. There are various error pages that get displayed. Try http://127.0.0.1/ (Local IP) else post what "nothing" is

if you are trying to look at it from a remote machine try the ip address of the machine that is running xampp

what i mean by nothing is that nothing is shown on the screen, the status bar reads "connecting to localhost" and it does not change

and this is not a remote machine

but when i attempt to go to http://localhost, i get nothing.

You cann see all XAMPP components in the process list?

I'm not exactly sure what you mean by that...
