Best linux distro to use?

Postby robd » 26. December 2006 19:49

Hi all

Being relatively new to the world of linux (and XAMPP) - could someone suggest the best linux distro to use for XAMPP and webservers in general?

Thank you
RD.

SUSE

Hey Rob,

I use SUSE 10.0 and I have installed XAMPP just great. I have been very happy with the graphical interface for SUSE and YAST (yet another system tool). I would really check it out. al

Hi Al

Thanks for the suggestion - I'll download a copy and give it a serious test drive.

Thanks again
Rob.

For a small server that's sole purpose is to deliver web pages, I'm using Damn Small Linux. It's been working quite well for me.

For a working computer that doubles as a web server, I suggest Ubuntu. Designed to be user-friendly for new-comers to Linux, yet powerful enough to please an expert. Plus, unlike SuSE, it's all 100% open-source - no lip service to Microsoft!

I certainly can advise Ubuntu. I have been using the Ubuntu/XAMPP combination for over a year now, and I am very satisfied with the performance. XAMPP updates are easy to install and they operate fine.
