hi everyone!
i am a newbie of PHP and a friend recommended XAMPP to me. although ubuntu has a built-in server (Apache), i removed it through Synaptic and tried to install XAMPP for Linux.
i was able to download it and extract (tar). my problem is i do not know how to start it even if as instructed, i just had to go to /opt/lampp/ then the executable file to start xampp is already there. it doesn't work.
i must have done something wrong or i might have missed on something.
please help....
thank you in advance!

You have to start XAMPP through the terminal (Application > Acessories > Terminal)
Now type in the following:
sudo /opt/lampp/lampp start
Enter your password you use to login to ubuntu. XAMPP will now attempt to start up
