localhost or 127.0.0.1

Hi

I have just installed XAMPP-Linux
on the installation notes at Step 4 it says to type http://localhost . when I do this I end up at a site in australia and not at the XAMPP index page. to get there I have to type http://127.0.0.1

I have not secured the MYSql to the network it is still open.

I cannot connect to databases because DBDesigner4 uses localhost and not 127.0.0.1 , is this my problem or do I have a bigger one?

when XAMPP-Linux wrote my hosts file because it was either badly written or didnt exist, it wrote

127.0.0.1 localhost.localdomain # added by Apache Friends

if it had written

127.0.0.1 localhost localhost.localdomain # added by Apache Friends

then localhost would have been registered as a name for 127.0.0.1 in the localdomain and typing localhost would have got me to xampp.index instead of Australia.
