Can be used XAMPP for file sharing??

That's right.

I'm trying to do this for 2 reasons.
I have a LAN with 8 computers. All of them are using SAFESQUID Proxy.
I wanna share some common files between this computers, but also i need to reach this files from outside the LAN (eg. my house or even when i travel).
So... if i put the files on the WEB DIRECTORY, can be accessed over the LAN? How can i do this? also... can be reached from outside? do i have to redirect some ports to do this? how i do this?
