Howto upgrade just Mysql

Hello,

I've got a 1.4.16. I tried wiping it out installing a fresh 1.5 and migrating data over. While 90% of everything worked. It was a bit too risky for a production box.

Is there a guide for upgrading just mysql? If there isn't one would be greatly appreciated. I need to get from mysql 4.1.12 to 4.1.16 or higher. I do not need mysql 5.
