Adding a new user...

Postby bercy46 » 10. April 2006 17:57

I've been using xampp for a while now, especially phpmyadmin. However, I've been the only user so far, and I've been logging in with user "root", that has a password.

Now, I want to let another user have access to my database.

I tried adding a user with the phpmyadmin interface, first giving minimal privileges, and later giving all privileges : the result either way is that the new user can't login, the message is "Cannot log in to the MySQL server".

The user was added with "any host", and with a password.

I then tried to give that user all privileges to a specific database, but that obviously didn't change anything.

Note that the new user can access the mysql database from a unix shell. So it definitely is a phpmyadmin issue, and not a mysql issue...

Here's some of the lines in my :

* Server(s) configuration
$i = 0;
// The $cfg['Servers'] array starts with $cfg['Servers'][1]. Do not use
// $cfg['Servers'][0]. You can disable a server config entry by setting host
// to ''. If you want more than one server, just copy following section
// (including $i incrementation) serveral times. There is no need to define
// full server array, just define values you need to change.
$cfg['Servers'][$i]['host'] = 'localhost'; // MySQL hostname or IP address
$cfg['Servers'][$i]['port'] = ''; // MySQL port - leave blank for default port
$cfg['Servers'][$i]['socket'] = ''; // Path to the socket - leave blank for default socket
$cfg['Servers'][$i]['connect_type'] = 'tcp'; // How to connect to MySQL server ('tcp' or 'socket')
$cfg['Servers'][$i]['extension'] = 'mysql'; // The php MySQL extension to use ('mysql' or 'mysqli')
$cfg['Servers'][$i]['compress'] = FALSE; // Use compressed protocol for the MySQL connection
// (requires PHP >= 4.3.0)
$cfg['Servers'][$i]['controluser'] = 'pma'; // MySQL control user settings
// (this user must have read-only
# commented out by lampp security
#$cfg['Servers'][$i]['controlpass'] = ''; // access to the "mysql/user"
$cfg['Servers'][$i]['controlpass'] = '<the password that works when I log in as root...>';
// and "mysql/db" tables).
// The controluser is also
// used for all relational
// features (pmadb)
# commented out by lampp security
#$cfg['Servers'][$i]['auth_type'] = 'config'; // Authentication method (config, http or cookie based)?
$cfg['Servers'][$i]['auth_type'] = 'cookie';
$cfg['Servers'][$i]['user'] = 'root'; // MySQL user
$cfg['Servers'][$i]['password'] = ''; // MySQL password (only needed
// with 'config' auth_type)
$cfg['Servers'][$i]['only_db'] = ''; // If set to a db-name, only
// this db is displayed in left frame
// It may also be an array of db-names, where sorting order is relevant.

Thanks for any help...

Hi bercy46,

does anything change if you set

Code: Select all
$cfg['Servers'][$i]['auth_type'] = 'cookie';

Code: Select all
$cfg['Servers'][$i]['auth_type'] = 'http';
