I have modified httpd.conf and httpd-ssl.conf to point to the right NameServer (xxxx.no-ip.info) and restarted lampp but nothing heppened. http://localhost stills works.

What did I do wrong?

Many thanks

Hello

I must confess: I don't get it! I see no point of having xampp working as http://localhost. Perhaps I misunderstood the idea behind xampp. I thought it was to get a real apache server with php and stuff.

well you will have to do more then configer it in the xampp config file you will have to set up a dns server.

i guessing you have bind installed if you do read a guide on how to set it up

and may i sugest buying a proper doamin mane u think namecheep.com are the cheepest

for the guide and extra help i sugest going here
http://forums.devshed.com/dns-36/bet-yo ... 41940.html

and use the section that that post is in to ask your questions.

i can run a domain wihtout setting it up in the config files maybe theres a reason but i dont know it

first that IS what XAMPP is for, second, no-ip is a DNS redirection service. you should not be putting whatever.no-ip.org in your configs' ,it wont work. third, do you have your no-ip.org Hostname Information showing YOUR IP address. fourth, put YOUR ip adress in the configs instead of your no-ip.org hostname. and finally, don't jump to conclusions and blame XAMMP for your mistakes :)
