Upgrading to 1.5.1 from 1.4.15

Postby usacomp2k3 » 13. January 2006 18:06

I'm using lampp 1.4.15, and was wondering what the easiest way to upgrade to 1.5.1 would be.
Could I just run the backup script, move that somewhere, then uninstall lampp, install the new one, and then restore the backup?

Pardon my noobishness. I've been running lampp for almost year now on my Ubuntu server, and love it. Currently running gallery 2.0.2, phpBB 2.0.19, and Wordpress 2.0

backup wont work i think.. try to save your configuration files like httpd.conf, my.ini, php.ini, backup database per phpmyadmin and download your htdocs folder, macke a backup with the script (to be on the safety side), then install the new xampp version, your htdocs should stay the same but you have to edit the configuration files (open old, open new ones, make it fit..) then restart apache/xamp engine. sorry for the bad bad english, but hope you understand it..

The difficulty lies in the fact that my server is at home while I'm at college, thus I was hoping for something simple that I could manage over the phone, or have it just do its thing and come back up automatically. I'll probably mess with it in a month or 2 then if it's not completely simple.

Thank you very much for your response, I truly appreciate it.

Well, unfortunately, due to some mistyping on my part (rm -rf is a powerful tool), I'm being forced to upgrade. I'll let you know how it goes :P
