connection refused to localhost

Problems with the Linux version of XAMPP, questions, comments, and anything related.

connection refused to localhost

Postby qwk » 16. August 2005 13:00

I tried the xammpp for linux, but after I had installed I had a problem (I'm beginer)

1. I downlad the xampp-linux-1.4.14.tar
2. tar xvfz xampp-linux-1.4.7.tar.gz -C /opt
3. cd /opt/lampp
4. ./lampp start

Starting XAMPP for Linux 1.4.7...
XAMPP: Starting Apache with SSL (and PHP5)...
XAMPP: Starting MySQL...
XAMPP: Starting ProFTPD...
XAMPP for Linux started.

5. I opened firefox and I typed it: http://localhost or http://127.0.0.1
6. Then a window was popped up the folloing message: "connection refused to localhost"

I don't konw it is necessary to say or not, I use Mandriva2005 and I don't use any firewall protection. In the background I see the daemons running.

I don't know why I get this message or what the problem was:
-maybe I have to install some package ????
-maybe I have to set something else ???

So I don't understand, because I should get this message when I don't start apache and mysql (I think)

Please, help me !

May be you should check your network connection.

Under Linux I don't use internet. So I didn't set anything about network.
Should I have to set anything? If you think so - what I have to set to work proberly ?

I'd be willing to put money on this shell command fixing it.

/etc/rc.d/init.d/iptables stop

I had the same problem. iptables is the linux built in firewall. You will need to permanently fix it if stopping iptables fixes your problem. You will have to add rules to allow traffic on port 80 through. Port 22 for SSH too.
