Setting up user directory

Postby alan_the_eagle » 03. August 2005 12:17

I have successfully installed XAMPP on my RHEL 4 box - it's a wonderful idea, well implemented and I am really impressed with it.

I want to keep my development files in my home directory so I have created /home/alan/public_html and placed a test index file in there.

Whenever I access http://localhost/~alan/ I get the following message:-

"Forbidden

You don't have permission to access /~alan/ on this server.

Additionally, a 403 Forbidden error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.
Apache/2.0.54 (Unix) mod_ssl/2.0.54 OpenSSL/0.9.7g PHP/5.0.4 DAV/2 mod_perl/1.999.21 Perl/v5.8.6 Server at localhost Port 80"

Permissions on this folder are 777.

What else should I check?

Thanks!

Alan

I just found the answer - apologies.

Although permissions on my public_html folder were OK I had to change /home/alan to be 755.
