Add library to both versions of PHP

I need to recompile both PHP 4 and 5 to have support for SAPRFC. I previously had this installed on a stand-alone version of PHP but decided to "upgrade" to XAMPP (or will if I can get this working ) I just need guidance on how to go about recompiling the versions of PHP that come with XAMPP. I dl'ed the development package but am not sure if that is what I need or even how to use it. My XAMPP version 1.4.14
