I get the same exact error. MySQL is deactivated, even though XAMPP starts with no problem at all. I uninstalled it and reinstalled it yesterday, and it was working again. But today, MySQL is always deactivated too. It is really annoying. Anyone got a solution?

If you've trouble with MySQL in most cases it's a problem with the installation: You allways have to install XAMPP exactly the way as described in the manual.

But if MySQL first runs and later stops working it must be something else: Could you please take a look in the .err file in /opt/lampp/var/mysql. Look at the end of that file. Are there any error messages?

Best regards

Yeah, there it is. How do I fix this? The real problem is that mysql is activated the first time I run XAMPP. But as soon as I stop it, whenever I start it again, it is not activated. Here the error logs:

Dear FelixT!

Are you sure you installed XAMPP exactly as described in the manual? It's really looks like..

Please call the following command and post the output:

ls -la /opt/lampp/var/mysql/

I did everything written on the website where I downloaded XAMPP, yes.

ls -la /opt/lampp/var/mysql/ gives me :

total 6
drwxr-xr-x 6 ftremblay ftremblay 184 2005-05-31 02:58 .
drwxr-xr-x 4 ftremblay ftremblay 128 2005-05-31 02:58 ..

-rw-rw---- 1 nobody root 2171 2005-05-31 02:58 XANPRL2YO8.err

As I said, it works the FIRST time I run XAMPP and ONLY the first time. And the posts above my first post indicate that I am not the only one having the same exact problem.

Dear FelixT!

XAMPP is not installed correctly or you changed the ownership of the files after installing XAMPP.

drwxr-xr-x 6 ftremblay ftremblay 184 2005-05-31 02:58 .

Now it's hard to get anything back to the original state and I assume it's the best to backup your data, delete everything and reinstall XAMPP. Sorry. Anything else would be very difficult.

Good luck

Hum... Yeah, I did that, so I could use it with my own user... I didn't know that it would screw it all. Thanks for the tip!

Dear nik!

Whatever you did, but these two seems to be the problem:

Code: Select all
drwx------ 2 nobody nobody 3480 2006-03-12 21:54 forum
drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 48 2006-03-12 21:42 Forum

Did you copy a database file from Windows to Linux? Please do the following command and try again:

chown -R nobody.nobody /opt/lampp/var/mysql

If MySQL still doesn't work please take a look at the end of your linux.err file. What do you find?

Greetings
