Dear Calinc!

In which context do you get the error message?

Hello. :D

I am having a similar problem.

I have installed the latest version of XAMPP onto my Gentoo Linux. I am not able to connect to the running MySQL daemon locally or across my network. (it shows the same socket error)

After starting XAMPP (/opt/lampp/lampp start) and then shutting it down (/opt/lampp/lampp stop), ps aux | grep mysql shows two "mysqld_safe" processes running. I seem to be unable to kill them.

If I attempt to start XAMPP again, it starts Apache, MySQL, and ProFTPD, then says "XAMPP for Linux Started.".

A few seconds later, it says:

Code: Select all
kill: usage: kill [-s sigspec | -n signum | -sigspec] [pid | job] ... or kill -l [sigspec]

... like something is issuing a bad kill command on the system.

This is a freshly installed version of Gentoo, no GUI or anything. Bare minimums. :D

Is this a bug in the MySQL release?

XAMPP works fine on DSL (Damn Small Linux)

Postby reenyg » 16. April 2005 09:32

Hi,

XAMPP works fine even under heavy load when tried on an old Pentium II machine with DSL 1.0.1 . The details of the setup are in this picture http://www.marthomachurch.org.uk/xampp.jpg.
