can i run apachefriends in somewhere else instead of /opt/la

because of the school server limitation, we are not able to install anything from / and we can only install those in /usr/local .... but we do really need apachefriends, is there any way to make it work? i tried to modify the lampp by replacing /opt/lampp to /usr/local/opt/lampp but it is not working at all....we really need it, any help would be appericate!
