ERROR 1558 (HY000): Column count of mysql.proc is wrong

You probably somehow mixed the mysql databases from two installations. You can do an export of your own databases, deinstall Xampp, install a new release and import your backup of your own data. Thats the only way i see to get a clean installation.

uninstalled XAMPP, reinstalled XAMPP, remade the dummy database, ran the queries I mentioned in the first post, lo and behold, EXACTLY the very same error message pops up again :? :shock:

I cannot help any further. Dont know, what you are doing wrong. I am normal user like you and i did my very best. Did you really backup YOUR database only? And also do NOT copy the data folder. As i cannot see, what you are doing, i cannot see, what you are doing wrong. Good luck, but that is beyond my options. I cannot go any further.
