Cannot install xampp-win32-1.8.1- VC9 Installer

For some reason lately, I cannot install 1.8.1 xampp. I have user account control settings turned off. I am an admin account, I run it as admin and it says it is blocked. I can run 7.1.7 just fine. Why would one be blocked but not the other?

In case or your original question, Xampp-win32-1.8.1 is a pretty old installer and if i remember correctly, its not supported for Win10/11. Bitnami switches to 64-bit installers quite a few years ago. Why do you want to install an outdated 32-bit version?

We use it for our company still and it is compatible with some software we use.

Due to sourceforge, it is from 2013(!), there was no Windows 11 neither Windows 10. You really should think about upgrading the software in your company.

Anyway, what do you mean by "it is blocked"? What is blocked and what is the full error message? For me it sounds as if you have any antivirus running which (falsely) sees any virus in the installer or similar!?

It sounds like there might be a compatibility issue or security setting blocking the installation of the xampp-win32-1.8.1-VC9 installer. You should make sure that your antivirus or firewall software isn't blocking the installation process.

And try downloading the installer again from the official website to rule out any corruption during the download process. Exactly! There is an "original" installaer on Sourceforge and it is a safe installer, no matter what antivirus is telling. it is a well known issue that some installers are blocked falsely. But as long as we dont know the fully qualified error message, we cannot help any further.

Finally - i solved it! I put some more time into it and got it running.

Actually, Windows10/11 really(!) blocks "outdated" installers (its not an antivirus tool and there is not much documentation about the reasons), but it is a well known problem. Didnt you google for it? You would have found tons of help.

There are workarounds how to execute outdated installers against the blocking message, but its tricky. In case of Xampp, fortunately there is much easier solution: proceed to Sourceforge and download the ZIP-Package instead of the EXE-Package! Same name for both of them.

After then extract the ZIP package into c:/ and finally you are done. You probably have to do some works in order to install the c:/xampp folder including the executable Xampp Controlcenter into your Desktop, but as you are a Windows Admin, you should know how to proceed. Usually we DO NOT support companies, this forum is meant for "poor" privat users, but its ok for now. But from now on you *should* know how to procede further.

Last not least, dont forget: you really, really, really should update your environment.

I see a couple of zip files. Is it this one? xampp-win32-1.8.1-VC9.zip.md5. I downloaded it and there was nothing to unzip.
