What's wrong with MariaDB version numbering scheme?

Postby trejder » 23. October 2023 13:28

Latest official release is XAMPP 8.2.4 from 8th April 2023: https://www.apachefriends.org/blog/new_ ... 30408.html

It says: "MariaDB 5.4.28".

I have run into a problem with MariaDB shutting down over and over again, but instead of trying any solution provided there, I decided to backup my data and upgrade MariaDB version to the newest one.

Everything works just fine (as of writing this), but I was surprised to see the version numbering scheme difference!

I understand that it is impossible for MariaDB to be upgraded six major version since April (5.4.28 → 11.1.2-GA), so I assume that XAMPP and MariaDB is using different numbering scheme.

Can someone shed some light on this? What are the key differences, why XAMPP uses different than official one etc.
