The Apache2.4 service terminated with the following service-specific error:
Incorrect function.

I don't know what to do from this point -- was working for months/years -- then suddenly?

Was anything changed on your system? New software, updated software, system updates, settings, or other?

Did you check the (Apache) Logs button on the XAMPP Control Panel as suggested?

This post is from the Apache Log
Security Intelligence Update for Microsoft Defender Antivirus - posted every day -- only updates to the system I can find
----Therefore, if it is a "Port" problem, I don't know where to look
----otherwise Was anything changed on your system? New software, updated software, system updates, settings, or other? -- NO !!
I did rename xampp to old_xampp, installed latest xampp 8.2.0 got same error message, uninstalled 8.2.0, renamed old_xampp to xampp, still have the problem

What is the post from the Apache log, your original message? That is just a bunch of messages from the XAMPP Control Panel, and not the Apache log. Apache maintains several log files on the system under xampp. There is the \xampp\apache\logs\access.log, and the \xampp\logxampp\apache\logs\error.log. You should review those, particularly the error log, for clues.
