Problem with images not displaying

I have the settings set to off.

EnableSendfile off
EnableMMAP off

The problem I am having is that sometimes an image displays and sometimes it doesn't. It maybe related to the GD component.

The images are thumbnail images from Smartor's photo album for phpbb.

Ok, as I was typing this, I played with the settings for the photo album. What version of GD is in XAMPP? I set it to use GD1 and it appears to be working.

I found this with phpinfo():

GD Version:  (2.0.28 compatible)

Everyone on Smartor's forums say they can use this version of GD with GD2. I guess oh well. I will keep playing...

BTW a quote I found:

Support for GIF was restored in gd 2.0.28 on July 21st, 2004. Basic support for GIF animation is planned for an upcoming release.
