Hello,

I used All-in-One WP Migration to upload a previous wordpress install and I cannot log into wordpress. I have went into the database check the username and password and even changed it but it will still not let me in. Keep saying the password in incorrect.

Why is it not accepting or updating my password?

Thanks
Jim

Hi,

We are sorry, but we cannot provide any support for Wordpress related issues.
You should ask your question at a wordpress related support channel.

Hey Altrea,

I fully understand. However this does not seem like just a wordpress issue. As I mentioned. We are changing the password in the database and it is still not working. I have never experienced anything like this using a web host and database.

If anyone has any ideas I would like to hear them.

Thanks
Jim

Actually, it is likely a WordPress issue. I'm not familiar with All-in-One WP Migration, but that said, I have taken a clone of the database from a site I support and migrated it into XAMPP. I needed to add users and such, and adjust site settings and data related to site URLs and some paths that WP sticks in the database, but result is the cloned site all works just fine in XAMPP.

You have no idea what it is, so if you have nothing positive or productive to offer you should just not post.

Does anyone have any idea why wordpress would not be verifying the password in the database?? We have copied and pasted it and we have changed it. The install is fine. Everything on the site is working.

We have never experienced anything like this using a webhost.

Just because the answer is not the one you expected does not mean it is not a valid reply.
You are asking for help because you by yourself do not know the answer.
How can you be so confident that the issue is not wordpress related (or related to any wordpress module, or All-in-One WP Migration)?

Maybe it is something trivial, but your last reply will not help to motivate potential helpers investing any more time in getting you closer to a solution.

It is related to something with wordpress, wp migration and XAMPP. I already stated that this has never happened on a hosted server and we just tested it on a hosted server.

One thing I might add is that it wordpress recognizes the username but not the password.

Obviously, his post was not helpful or productive at all. Are you blaming me for simply stating the truth? You should have asked for more information before writing this off as only a wordpress issue also.

You should know better and do better as a moderator.

We have just done some testing and there is a difference here. The passwords listed in the database under wp_users are not the passwords in wordpress. They are diffident. Obviously copying one and pasting it would not work and it is likely changing it there is not going to work either. That is information that someone with XAMPP experience might have known. Not having seen the password in two years, we would not.

Thanks for your help. We greatly appreciate it. :?

This issue had nothing to do with wordpress at all. Nor was it an issue with the local server.

We simply forgot to select MD5 when we updated the password. An issue with updating a password via the server.

If you had simply not incorrectly interjected yourself into the thread by "wrongly" concluding this was an issue with wordpress, someone may have been able to help us.

You were wrong about wordpress, the person who made the unproductive post was totally wrong and you were also wrong about that.

I hope you can work on your skills as a moderator and try to be a little better at helping people.

I don't see any reason for me or Froosh to work on our skills or way of providing support or moderation in this case.
Getting experienced opinions from potential helpers at a community support board is always a valid ressource to think about your acting or your environment.

You were very rude and offensive in your replies. You posted wrong information (or do you successful change your wordpress password on your hosting provider without using MD5?).
But it is always the easy way to blame someone else for PEBCAK.

If your expectation of getting help does not fit our board, feel free to use other support channels or hire an freelancer.

I was not rude and the only reason misinformation was posted is because we needed help. That does not happen around here when people are working to solve something? They post information that turns out to be incorrect after the issue has been resolved. I have not needed to reset a password via the server for over a year.

I was working in XAMPP and someone else tested it on our host. That is how we discovered I had simply forgot to use MD5. ( I posted that wordpress recognized the username but not the password. That information would have likely been enough for someone with more experience to ask if I used MD5 when updating it. )

I came back and posted the issue and the resolution. There was no need for you to "highlight" it. You certainly did not discover what the issue was and solve it.

Hopefully anyone who has this issue will now be able to find the solution themselves. Unfortunately, they will also find that I was not able to get any help here and the moderation was certainly lacking in professionalism, to say the least.

Ummm, I beg to differ. You have actually been quite rude in my view. Nobody here is paid a cent to offer assistance to the best of my knowledge.

My earlier comments were just pointing out that XAMPP does work with a WP site cloned from another server. If nothing else, it lets you or anyone else know that it can be done. While I may not know your specific setup or how the data backed up and imported into XAMPP in your case, I do know that you can do it. WordPress user accounts and passwords are specific to WordPress. Unless you mean the credentials used in the WordPress config file to connect to the database itself. For that, you need to add the database user/login to the database and ensure it has rights to the database associated with your site. I've done this a number of times, but oh well, you just see, to be more interested in being argumentative than being helped here.... so I am not going to waste my free time further here.

You were extremely rude. So rude, that i decided not to give any hint, inspite it was my very first and immediate(!) idea that the password has to be encrypted correctly (what actually was exactly your problem). But why should I help a guy who is a troll in me eyes?

I have never read an unfriendly comment from "Froosh" and your reaction to him was a pain.

Are you guys ok? Maybe a group hug would help you? Froosh was totally wrong. I simply stated that if he had nothing productive to offer he should not post. Not rude and certainly not a big issue. I suppose you recommend that people who have nothing productive to offer should just post anyway. BTW, the hero who comes in at the end of the thread claiming they could have helped the person, but decided not to, usually couldn't have and is just looking for attention.

We solved the problem and posted the solution. Hopefully it will be useful to someone. You can now continue your melodrama in peace.

Good day.

Still very rude and offensive.

A fool with a tool is still a fool.
And a troll is still a troll.

Just because you were totally wrong about this being a wordpress issue, should have gotten more information before posting, and were able to offer no useful information or help, does not make you a fool or a troll. Everyone makes mistakes. You have just made several in a short period of time.

I am sure you will do better the future.

Instead of lashing out at people, by falsely calling them rude, you could examine your own failures. You might not be wrong so often and may be able to actually help someone.
