Can not load localhost/wordpress
I have the wordpress installation folder in the xampp/htdocs directory.
Any idea what could be the problem and how to fix it?

In my lectures, the professor just starts Apache and MySql from Xampp Control Panel and then opens the browser and enters localhost/wordpress. I do the same. It says that the access is denied

What do you see if you just type in http://localhost/
Is Apache and MySQL/MariaDB started successful?
What is the contents of your Apache access.log and error.log?

I can not access http:// localhost either. However my Apache and MySql are working.
On my access.log there is a POST request with status 200 (maybe because I tried just right now to open again localhost/wordpress as well as just http://localhost -> after that I opened phpMyAdmin which is included in the post request in the access.log)
On my error.log there is no current error; only from a few hours before: [mpm_winnt:notice] AH00354: Child: Starting 150 worker threads.

status 200 means ressource successful served. How does this fit with your error report?

Maybe you changed something in the configs like DocumentRoot or virtual hosts? Or placed a not properly written .htaccess file.

I haven't changed anything. My issue is that when I type http://localhost/ or localhost/wordpress and press enter I can not load anything. Last thing that I did before my first try was to create from phpMyAdmin a new database

something has been changed by you or your system. Otherwise a request for http://localhost/ should automatically redirect to http://localhost/dashboard/ and show the XAMPP Dashboard.

We do not have enough information to identify your issue, because you are telling literally nothing.
So which advice should i give you? Undo everything and start from scratch? I don't know.

Through XAMPP control panel, did you start Apache first and wait until you see the ports are displayed? then, start MysQL and again wait until the ports are displayed?
Through this process, your Windows Firewall will fire up and ask you to set permission for each (Apache and MySQL), and if you missed it, you will not be able to load your pages, so you have to manually set permissions for each.
