Localhost Won't Start After php Upgrade

Hi all, I wonder if anybody can help?

I upgraded php under Xampp from 7.4 to 8.1.4, and both Apache and MySQL start OK. But now localhost won't start. I get the "Connection refused" error. Tried 127.0.0.1 directly but same thing. Currently using Port 8080.

Can anybody help me solve this? I've checked the Windows 10 firewall but cannot see any issues. Is there something new with php 8.1.4 which requires different configuration anywhere?

I ran into this issue when I updated XAMPP (Apache, mysql, php, perl) to include PHP8.1. After wasting several hours trying to troubleshoot, it became apparent that the only viable solution was to revert back to a previous version of PHP. The update to the newest PHP has caused many applications to randomly crash including WordPress, WordPress plugins, XAMPP installations, and others. Eventually, developers discovered that all of the issues stemmed from incompatibility with PHP 8.1 and advised users to revert back to the last working PHP version. Now I'm just waiting on all of the application developers to work out the kinks so that I can update without worry. I'm not sure what Apache's plan for compatibility is though.

Xampp does not provide PHP upgrade, so we dont know what you did.

You say, that you are "currently" using Port 8080. What is meant by "currently"? You have to apply the Portnumber in the URL if you dont use Port 80, did you do that?

Hi Nobbie, thanks for your reply. I upgraded php manually in connection with another project I was working on, so obviously not from within xampp. Yes, I am using localhost:8080, but it fails. Any other ideas? Thanks!

Its difficult without any error message and without any configuration line. Last not least it could be, that it actually works, but you have a redirect which leads to an unresolved server (i.e. to localhost on Port 80 or so).
