Hi,

you can use your PC-Name if you like...
If you want it to be available under other Names.. then you must have either a WINS-Server or DNS server and make the entries.

Where can i found some information about setting up a dns or wins-server? Explanation in "noob-terms"

Is it difficult to do?

Hi,

yes it is quite difficult... since you need to know some basics about networks etc.

But google.com might help ya find something?

Edit the file "HOSTS" in "\WINNT\system32\drivers\etc" (not "hosts.sam").

This is fairly complicated stuff. First, you're talking about several different things. Are you looking to get to your web site from the maching running XAMPP? Or from another machine on your local network? Or from the internet? Do you want a regular internet domain name, or just a name you can use from your own network? All these things are different.
