Upgrade or migration?

Postby ThomasVit » 26. May 2021 09:47

Hi all,

A colleague is using a XAMPP server running on Windows 2019. XAMPP version 7.3.1
Our vulnerability tool reports a lot of vulnerability on our current version so I've been asked to look at options.

- Upgrading from 7.3.1 to 8.0.6: is that OK? Do I just need to download the installer and run it to upgrade? We are already on mariadb using 7.3.1 so I dont think we need to do a DB export
- migrating to a Linux LAMP server, is there any documentation available anywhere on how to migrate a XAMPP install to LAMP? Since the server is now used for reporting by managers (not accessible outside only on our LAN)

Thanks for any help.

There is neither nor. Upgrading means full deinstall plus new install, and of course doing appropriate backups and restores on your files.

There is no migrating documentation for switching OS, also new installation plus appropriate backups and restores.
