Windows Event Viewer provides the following error message:
Slave I/O: Fatal error: Invalid (empty) username when attempting to connect to the master server. Connection attempt terminated. Internal MariaDB error code: 1593.
My XAMPP had been working OK for months. I don't think anything was changed to cause this.
How can this be corrected?

I suspect that the SQL database was running when my desktop machine went to sleep, then timed out when I brought the machine up hours later. Or perhaps it was active when I shut down unexpectedly. To recover I just reinstalled the entire stack starting with the latest xampp 8.0.3 and everything is AOK.
