Hi,

Newer XAMPP versions take their version number from the included PHP version.
The newest XAMPP version containing PHP 5.6.X was XAMPP 5.6.40 which can be found here: https://sourceforge.net/projects/xampp/ ... ws/5.6.40/

Thank you!
Can you please tell me how to update, without losing data?
I have a few phpBB forums with SQL databases and I wish to keep them. :)
regards,
DANIEL

Changing the XAMPP version always means doing a fresh installation.

To do this safely you would need to backup all your asset files (e.g. htdocs) and export all your databases.
To be as safe as possible ou should additionally backup your whole xampp folder to.

Then you maybe need to do some cleaning work.
Did you set any windows services to start a component automatically? unregister them.
Did you use the installer version? use the uninstaller to remove the old XAMPP installation.
If you did not use the installer version but the zip or 7z version, you can remove the xampp folder yourself.

Now you can install or extract the new xampp version.
copy back your saved asset files
try to import your databases. Because of the big gap between your versions you should expect some trouble here, because the syntax has changed.
Especially the special word for the database engine has changed from "TYPE" t0 "ENGINE", so open your export files and replace the specific words.

You will need to recreate your database users and permissions too if you set some. They are not included in your exports.

If you did yome configuration changes you proberly need to do them too.

If you get in any trouble you still have the backup you can bring back to live by simply move it to the old path.
And you can report your issues so we can help you. Good luck
