Use mySQL instead of mariadb

I want to update some websites which are built to use mySQL (Zen Cart platform), and see that xampp now ships with mariadb. Is this compatible with mySQL, or is there a simple way to switch a xampp installation to mySQL?

Just answered my own question. Google shows that mariadb is made by the mySQL developers, and is supposed to be fully compatible. Hope this helps someone else.
