Suggestions for xampp

Postby celestinoxp » 18. June 2020 10:56

Hi,

i have latest vesrsion of xampp, (xampp for windows 7.4.7).

And i have some suggestions for developers, for next versions. HTTP2 protocols is more eficient than http1.1, so i think, xampp should use http2 protocol by default.

My suggestion for next releases (by default):

1º, Activate http2 --> Uncomment "LoadModule http2_module modules/mod_http2.so" in httpd.conf and file http-ssl.conf should have this line: "Protocols h2 h2c http/1.1" after "<VirtualHost _default_:443>".

2º Update Certificate Date (Is valid to 09-11-2019), see C:\xampp\apache\conf\ssl.crt

3º In httpd-ssl --> Change line ServerName www.example.com:443 to ServerName localhost:443

I'm not sure if this is the correct process for activating http2, but certainly xampp developers will think about it ... right?

I dont think so.

HTTP/2 is still not supported by many webhosters. Due to a study actually only less than 10% of all major providers (like 1&1, Strato, 1blu etc.) provide HTTP/2. As Xampp is meant as a development platform, it would be not very usefull to provide HTTP/2 as default, as you have to change your configuration when uploading from Xampp to any webhoster. That really makes no sense at all. You cannot rely on any feature of HTTP/2, as it is not supported online.

After HTTP/2 may have become the default protocoll in the internet (what nobody knows), it seems to be usefull to switch Xampp as well to HTTP/2. But in the current situation I cannot see any advantage.
