How to have two versions of XAMPP bundles installed

Postby vibonacci » 15. April 2020 08:49

Hello,

How would I achieve to have two versions of XAMPP bundles installed so that I can easily switch between those? I use projects that need different PHP versions. I'd like to have two completely separate XAMPP folders, not just two different php folders which I switch between using httpd-xampp.conf. I don't need to run them at the same time, just switch easily.

Would there be any conflicts if I use XAMPP installer to install a new version in a different folder? I understand that there can only be one Xampp version in Windows programs / start menu listing, which is no problem.

Thanks in advance.

Hi,

Use the zip versions instead of the installer ones.
Extract them to their own folder (e.g. C:\xampp744\ , C:\xampp7229\) - avoid special characters and whitespaces for the extraction destination (!!!)
Execute the setup_xampp.bat script of each of them by double clicking to update all needed file paths.

Thats it. You can now start the one control panel or the other one and start the processes from there. Avoid registering Windows Services because they would conflict because of same service names)

best wishes,

I would simply install each into its own folder, like c:/xampp5 and c:/xampp7 (for example for PHP5 and PHP7) and finally rename either c:/xampp5 to c:/xampp or c:/xampp7 to c:/xampp and vice verse. And then start Xampp from c:/xampp.

Thank you for the reply. Think the above the key of what I was worried about. Also, I did not know about the .zip bundles, which can be found here https://sourceforge.net/projects/xampp/files/XAMPP%20Windows/

I'll give it a go, after backing up current setup.

Backing up is always a good idea.
Better to be safe than sorry.
