XAMPP Update and MySQL Databases

Postby tomat5r » 29. March 2020 05:54

I am planning to update to the latest version of XAMPP. I have renamed my old installation c:\xampp-old. I will install the updated version to C:\xampp
I know doing this will preserve my projects in c:\xampp-old\htdocs. My question is, What will happen to my MySQL databases? Will they be overwritten or will they be untouched? Either way, to be safe, I will export the data to an .sql file before the update. However I'm curious as to what is going to happen.

Hi Tom,

Your mysql Databases are saved in \xampp\mysql\data\ so if you rename your whole xampp folder these databases will be save too.
But it is always a good idea to additionally export them, for backup and/or migration purposes.

best wishes,
