Error installing XAMPP server: I can't activate Apache and M

When I try to activate these functionalities, the following error message appears: "Problem executing the post-installation step. The installation may not complete successfully. The installation failed (php.exe). You may have to install the Microsoft Visual C ++ 2008 redistributable package. After that, run setup_xampp.bat in the xampp folder manually"

Windows XP is not supported by current XAMPP releases.
The last XAMPP Version being able to run on Windows XP was XAMPP 1.8.2-6 which can be found here
