Install on D Drive

Postby kanay » 08. January 2020 01:09

Hi,

I am new to this forum. I have been using XAMPP for quite some time.

Recently I had to install XAMPP on a computer with Win10 64bit OS.

The application encounters error messages and technical issues with MySQL / MariaDB when installation was done on the D Drive (not the OS root drive).

Whereas when I do the same installation and processes with XAMPP on C Drive, I definitely do not get the same errors.

The error specifically happens when I create a new user and grant database rights to the user.

The error message prompts the tables are corrupt (not able to access full error message now).

After that, I am not even able to re-start MySQL on XAMPP.

I have checked all the anti-virus and firewall settings and gave explicit exclusions to the MySQL processes.

I repeated the installation on C Drive to identify and isolate the error. There was no errors when the installation was on the C Drive.

Please give me some input as I would like to have XAMPP installed on the non-root Windows volume.

Best regards,

Kanay

Hi Kanay,

There are no known issues with other drive letters than C:. In fact for XAMPP and its components this is just a drive letter.
Of cause XAMPP (especially the zipped versions) are preconfigured to get installen on C:\xampp\, but you can update all needed paths by executing the setup_xampp.bat script once.

There are some known issues with installations in complex paths like special characters/white spaces or folders with high amount of folder and file locks (like synced folders from Dropbox, Google Drive, etc).
There were also some issues reported in the past with some HDD types. Also there can be issues with network shares and changing drive letter (usb pen) destinations.

I don't know your specific system so i can't tell any more about your problems.

Best wishes,
Altrea
