I received this error and I have no idea how to fix it. Hoping someone can guide me. FYI - I am inexperienced but have to download this for a class I am taking. Thanks in advance!

You may also enter "Port 80 in use by "Unable to open process" with PID 4!" into Google.

Hi sfborges79,

I can see that sometimes you got it working, then you got conflicts with the port and pid and then it shutdown unexpectedly (that is outside of XAMPP).
You do not say what you did to cause the differences in behaviour but perhaps you ended the apache processes (there are two) in windows task manager, or perhaps you killed only one.

If apache (or any other module) was started by XAMPP and itd processes are running XAMPP stores the main process pid so it can recognise it when you call the application again after you shut it down, also so that it can kill it when you request it.
If you kill the apache processes (both of them) and then start XAMPP it should start with its own pid and everthing should be OK.

If this did not help and you need further help I would advise you provide sufficient information to diagnose the issue.

Altea´s has a great post int he Q&A section that explains what is required.

and here is a template you can fill in.
It is important that you state what actions you took for between different XAMPP actions because that may be significant to the issue.

XAMPP Version: for example 3.2.1 o the installer version for example 7.3.10_1
XAMPP Installation path:for example C:\xampp
Configuration changes since installation:For example JAVA upgrade
Issue report:
1- I did bla bla
2- I expected bla bla
3 - I got bla bla
XAMPP control panel log: This is the contents of the window in the control panel, it starts [main] Initializing Control Panel
Relevant error log/s (the content): For example C:\xampp\mysql\data\mysql_error.log

Cheers.

Thank you to both. After googling "Port 80 in use by "Unable to open process" with PID 4!" I was able to find a video that assisted me with fixing the issue and it is now working.

Again, thank you!
