What's the difference between various download files?

Having trouble understanding the difference between a couple of the download files. What is the difference between the 2 downloads that follow:
1. xampp-portable-windows-x64-7.3.2-2-VC15.7z
2. xampp-windows-x64-7.3.2-2-VC15.7z

In my lexicon "portable" means NO installer which are normally distributed as zip (7z) files but I notice there is also a download that is named as both "portable" & "installer" (exe type file) which confuses the heck out of me.

Also, I'm intending to store this on a USB drive with other portable apps & would consider using the Portable Apps (i.e., portableapps.com) "XAMPP Launcher" app.

Exactly thats the idea of the "portable" Xampp installation. Its meant for USB sticks etc.

The portable version has the following differences compared to the standard version:
- setup_xampp.bat will set paths in the component config files without any drive letter
- xampp control panel windows service functionality is disabled
- main components MercuryMail and FileZillaServer are not included
- components webalizer and mailtodisk are not included

Why there is a installer version of the portable XAMPP bundle... i don't know. It does not make any sense, especially that this installer sets an uninstaller on the system it is executed.

Got it! Thanks, that is very helpful.

Wouldn't it make sense to post such information on the download page or did I just fail to find it.

I don't have any possibility to place information on the Apachefriends homepage. But yes, there are some ways to make the download page more selfspeaking then it is now.
