Setting up APACHE and Wordpress

I am having problems trying to configure my apaxhe and word press, I have follwed all of the instructions but when I try to login to install wordpress it tells me that it cannot connect to the xampp server? Any ideas on how to fix this?

Please show is the true full error message you get.
Did you change anything since XAMPP installation in the config files?
Which instructions did you follow exactly?
Which WordPress version did you use?

I got the APache to connect, i followed the instructions that came with the file. Now I can't get the word press to give me the optionns to edit or create any themes, I just get a website with my site name and no way to edit. I'm not sure If I am doing anything wrong.
