Multiple PHP versions Why not?

I gave WampServer a try for a few days, i wasn't satisfied with it, primarily because it was messing up my hosts file on each start. I like xampp. but I miss the ability to choose between multiple versions easily without having to reconfigure xampp each time a new update is released.

So why is xampp not working towards bringing this option in?

It's a very useful option for developers because an easier option of switching between multiple versions of PHP would mean that I can easily switch back and forth to check for deprecation errors in PHP.
