mirroring local website with HTTrack

Postby jopeto » 03. August 2018 01:29

Hello, I am running XAMPP on Windows and the website displays fine in a browser under

<http://localhost:8080/mywebsite>

However, when I try to mirror it using HTTrack I get a connection problem. The error that I am getting is "HTTrack has detected that the current mirror is empty. Ensure that the website still exists and/or check your proxy settings"

The website does still exist. Also, I changed the browser ID to "none". But I am still getting the same error.

Looking at the hts-log.txt file, I see the following:

09:02:36 Warning: Cache: damaged cache, trying to repair
09:02:36 Warning: Cache: 0 bytes successfully recovered in 0 entries
09:02:36 Warning: Cache: error trying to open the cache
09:02:37 Error: "Connect Error" (-4) after 2 retries at link localhost:8080/robots.txt (from primary/primary)
09:02:37 Warning: Retry after error -4 (Connect Error) at link localhost:8080/mywebsite/ (from primary/primary)
09:02:38 Warning: Retry after error -4 (Connect Error) at link localhost:8080/mywebsite/ (from primary/primary)
09:02:40 Error: "Connect Error" (-4) after 2 retries at link localhost:8080/mywebsite/ (from primary/primary)
09:02:40 Warning: No data seems to have been transferred during this session! : restoring previous one!

I am not sure how to proceed. Maybe it has something to do with the XAMPP setting as well.

Can anyone please help how to set up XAMPP so that I can make a mirror with HTTrack? Thank you!

Just for completeness, I am using Drupal 8 and I installed it running XAMPP as described in this tutorial:

https://www.drupal.org/docs/develop/local-server-setup/windows/quick-install-drupal-with-xampp-on-windows

I am guessing some of the settings of XAMPP don't let HTtrack make the mirror. But I am stumped so any help would be appreciated! Thanks.

I dont think that this is a Xampp issue. Drupal is a highly sophisticated PHP script, which renders dynamically created documents. I found lots of complaints that Httrack simply hangs in many cases. Did you ever succeed to copy a whole Drupal installation from any server?

I don't know of any XAMPP specific setting that would block HTtrack from doing its work

Yes, I made a Drupal site on Acquia Dev Desktop locally and was able to make a static image using HTtrack a while back, given the previous site was only about 6 html pages. However, the one that I am trying to make a static image of now is not that big either (probably a total of about 40 pages) with just pictures and text, without anything too crazy.

If HTtrack is not going to work, does anyone have a suggestion of how to make a static image of a Drupal site? Is wget likely to work better? Thank you!

Maybe. Dont forget: this is neither a HTtrack forum nor a wget forum. You asked for any Xampp setup for Httrack, but there is no. Same for wget, all these tools have to work on their own. There is no Xampp setup for copy tools.

Just as a note for someone who might be running into the same issue. I migrated the website on ubuntu running on localhost. On Ubuntu HTTrack has no problem mirroring perfectly the entire drupal site. Therefore it seems that it is really a windows specific issue. Since the above replies state that there is nothing in XAMPP to prevent HTTrack from working, the conclusion is that maybe the Windows version of HTTrack has some issues.
