Installation error

Postby swdb2018 » 11. January 2018 20:47

I am trying to install the latest XAMPP, but as soon as the installation application gets to ctlscript.bat, it bails out. I have an old HP Compaq running Windows 7 Ultimate 32-bit on a 64-bit machine (the guy that installed it chose this as it only got 2GB memory and it is easier, now everything run on halves... This is a secondhand takeover machine, but with valid software).

I am a rookie with this software, but as I need localhost to run a PHP application before I transfer it to a hosting service, I desperately need to get it running so I can customize my web application and test it.

I looked at a video that suggests I rather download the ZIP file and unzip it, then run the control program... But I can't find any ZIP file on your downloads page!

Please help me as time is running short for getting my web application ready for hosting...   :? :?:

Yes, if you use the zip or 7z version, you need to manually execute the setup_xampp.bat file once after unzipping.
We don't provide any support via personal channels like PM, email, Skype, TeamViewer!

I downloaded the zip file, extracted the files to c:\Program Files\Xampp and updated htdocs and virtualhost for multiple sites. So far so good. No apparent problems. I started xampp-control.exe in adminstrator mode. Then the problems started!

I tried to start Apache. Error. "The program can't start because api-ms-win-crt-runtime|1-1-0.dll is missing from your computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem."

I tried to close xampp-control.exe to come and do this and got another error! "Error: Cannot create file 'C:\Program Files\Xampp\xamp-control.ini'. Access denied." And I am running it as an administrator!

Help! What now???

Windows 7 normally don't allow BAT file execution.

Please don't extract XAMPP in paths with non Linux path characters. Most of the XAMPP programs are developed primary and on base of Linux and can show sideeffects if using paths with non Linux path characters.

You need to download and install the Microsoft Visual C++ 2017 Redistributable x86 Runtime.

What makes you think thats true?
I administrate over 900 systems primary Windows 7 ones and none of them is denying bat file execution.
