Cannot bring up 'localhost/xampp' directory tree page

Postby LivingLearning » 16. October 2017 18:37

Hi all, ok I've almost given up trying to figure this out. Need outside help!!
What I have:
I have installed Xampp 7.1.9... from your main site and the install went fine. (all logs ok, no errors) All default settings taken and no port changes.
I'm running win 8.1 on an HP Envy machine, spec'd out fine.

My problem is this:
I cannot bring up 'http://localhost/xampp' through browser. It always gives me Dashboard. (Firefox and Chrome same). And I'm looking to get to the main window which shows me all the directories under it and allows to to finish the setup and stuff. (Xampp for Windows screen) if that helps?

Things I can do:
From command line, I can bring up Xampp control panel and start Xampp and MySql just fine. (no noteable mesg in logs)
I've changed MySql passwd to something else.
I CAN bring up the Admin windows for Xampp and MySql just fine via control panel. (they are not installed as a service)
I can pull up a test .php file via Chrome using 'localhost/file.php' and it brings up the phpinfo screen just fine.
I can also pull up 'localhost/phpmyAdmin' just fine as well.
I was able to import the Northwinds database into MySql as well.

So, Maybe my understanding of this whole thing is off or maybe there is a problem somewhere???
All the notes I read and in the manuals, it talks about being able to bring up 'http://localhost/Xampp' and it should bring you to a screen that says "Xampp for Windows' and has a directory tree on the left side panel.
I cannot for the life of me get to that point??
Under my 'htdocs' directory (my webserver root directory, as I understand it) there are only a bunch of folders and a few files. The files are:
bitnami.css, favicon.ico, file.php (my phpinfo script), index.php
Is this perhaps a 'path' issue, or am I just really off base with how this all works.
For the record, I have spent many an hour now searching through diff forums trying to find anything that would help point out the problem. But to no avail.
Any suggested solution for others, doesn't seem to be what i'm trying to achieve.
So, to end a long story, do I have this setup correctly or am i still missing something, since I cannot see that directory tree page.?
Thanks in advance,
LivingLearning

This orange XAMPP admnistration page is gone forever. The Dashboard is the new default page for 2 years now.
XAMPP is already finished if the Dashboard is accessible. No need to end something up.

At the very top of this forum is a single sticky thread called [Q&A] Questions and Answers
In this listing you can find a thread touching your topic too: [Q&A] Where is the orange administration page
If this place is to hidden to find, well give me some hints where i should place it to make it easier zu find :D

best wishes,

Hi and thanks for the help.
Yes, after stepping back a bit, I see that i'm probably getting caught up in old help references.
Easy to do I guess, with all this info at your fingertips.

OK, so I understand 'Dashboard' is the new standard. Great!
I guess I missed your reference to the 'Q&A' section in this forum as well. Sorry about that.
I also understand that the Apache Module and Tomcat Module are two different things and I don't need them both running.
Thanks for taking the time to help set me straight.
So, since it appears that I have it running now, i'll get started on using it with php and mysql and my test pages.
Thanks again.
