Can't run modules as a service

I downloaded 5.6.31 and Joomla 3.7.4 to try to work with Joomla on my computer. Joomla says I need to check the boxes in the XAMPP Control Panel for Apache, MySQL to run them as a service, but I'm unable to check the boxes. (they aren't responsive at all). I'm running as an administrator. Did I do something incorrectly when installing? Everything else seems ok. How do I fix it?

Thanks for your help! I'm a total newb.

Hi,

You should only check these boxes if you want that Apache, MySQL, etc have to start right with Windows start. So is it really needed that these application are running all the time even if not needed?

Did you download the portable version of XAMPP 5.6.31? In the portable versions these checkboxes are disabled generally because Windows services will break portability.

best wishes,

Thanks for the quick reply. I think I may have downloaded the portable version. I'll go check. That's probably my problem. Thanks very much!

Just for the service checkboxes that is not a problem, because you can activate them by editing the control panel ini file.
But as already mentioned keep in mind that windows services are drive letter dependend and that activating them will no longer make your XAMPP installation portable.
