Hello. I'm currently running a Windows Server 2012 R2 VM with XAMPP 3.2.2 to host my forum. I'd like to add SSL to it but I'm a bit confused. I've already ran the makecert file but not sure what to do now. Can someone guide me please.

Thanks,
Shaneee

Xampp is not designed for Online Servers, its a development environment only. Anyway, you can use makerts only for local servers. For a real hosting server you have to buy a certificate at a trusted provider.

Of course there is a way, buy a certificate and follow the instructions. There are plenty of tutorials in the internet about installing SSL certificates. BUT: if you use Xampp for your Online server, it can be hacked very easily. Xampp is not secured as it is not mentioned to be used online. Therefore i will not help you on this issue, as we do not recommend Xampp for online access.
