I am trying to install xampp 7.1.4 into Vista in C:\xampp.
The installation hangs during "Unpacking files".
A window like a command prompt opens up and does nothing.
The address on the command prompt is C:\xampp\php\php.exe.
Windows Task Manager shows php.exe as existing but is inactive.
So is the xampp install program.
The visible xampp setup feedback is still showing ad rotation.
I stopped the command prompt and went to the xampp\php folder and tried to start php.exe.
I got the command prompt again but with a cursor this time but nothing else happened.
I had antivirus off during one attempt but no change.

Proceed to Sourceforge and download a ZIP Package instead of an installer. You simply may unpack that package into c:/xampp and you are done. You get ZIP packages at: https://sourceforge.net/projects/xampp/ ... ows/7.1.4/
