SSL Error RX Record too long... beginner needs help

Postby cbAp1 » 19. May 2017 17:47

Hey,

I've just started teaching myself about local hosts and test environments. I am using Firefox as a browser.

1 - Downloaded and installed xampp
2 - Worked through some localhosts PID errors using the forum
3 - Seemingly very close.

Then I got this error: An error occurred during a connection to localhost:8080. SSL received a record that exceeded the maximum permissible length. Error code: SSL_ERROR_RX_RECORD_TOO_LONG

4 - I began researching the error - but can't find anything that makes sense.
5 - Apache is running fine here: http://localhost:8080/dashboard/
5 - My site resides here: localhost:8080/mysite but the browser always reverts https://localhost:8080/mysite

How do I begin to fix the error?

Any help is appreciated. Thank you.

I started experimenting and found a solution myself.

I'm posting it hoping this helps out another beginner - or my method can be debated as incorrect. However - please post a proper solution.

1 - I went to localhost:8080/mydirectory (it redirects to https:)
2 - I changed this to localhost:443/mydirectory and created a SSL certificate exception
3 - I can now go to localhost/mydirectory and all works fine

I believe those were the steps I took.
